Nystagmus Oscillopsia Simulator VRby University of Sheffield
Simulates oscillopsia - a debilitating symptom experienced by some nystagmus sufferers
Nystagmus is an eye movement disorder whereby the sufferer's eyes move involuntarily. Oscillopsia is the symptom of perceiving the world to be in constant motion as a result of the eye motion. People who develop nystagmus early in life mostly adapt to the eye movements and do not experience oscillopsia, however others have to live with the debilitating effects of oscillopsia continuously. This app reproduces real eye tracking data from nystagmus patients in virtual reality. It has been designed to help raise awareness of the condition and to help people with nystagmus (and oscillopsia) communicate its debilitating nature. The main menu allows the user to select the type of nystagmus (horizontal, vertical, pendular) then experience the nystagmus within one of three scenes. The cardboard button/screen must be pressed in order to make selections. The oscillopsia can be toggled while in the scene with the press of the cardboard button/screen.
Second version incorporates 4 scenes and a modified (more typical) pendular nystagmus and slightly modified, more intuitive interface.
